Glass Temple @ Johor Bahru

A cultural experience in the town center of Johor Bahru.

An Indian temple made of glass aka GLASS TEMPLE!

Night view of the exterior of glass temple.

It was my very first experience to enter an Indian temple and joined their prayers. Thanks to my friend, Su. The prayer started around 7pm, there were live prayer band playing the music for praying. There was a man who conducted the prayer ( I dunno how should address him). He would pray to each god and goddess with flowers and waters and sing the prayers.

There were many gods inside. So the prayer took approximately 1.5 hours to 2 hours to finish. Other than the gods, there were many other statues from other religions at display.

The first glass temple in the WORLD!

The interior of the temple. From ceiling to the walls, they are all made of glass. It is all glittery inside.

So if you have not been there, it is worth a trip to experience and understand different culture. It is interesting to join the prayer, if you are worried that you do not know how to pray, just follow what others do!

(* a very friendly reminder:  Make sure you drink less water and use the loo before u travel to the temple. The toilets there are quite awful T_T)

The temple, located in 22 Lorong 1, Jalan Tebrau, Johor Baru, is accessible through Jalan Tun Abdul Razak and the lane that borders Gim Shew Building. Car and coach parking is available and there’s also a shoe storage service.

It is open for devotees from 7am to 10pm daily, while visiting hours for tourists are between 1pm and 5pm.

Entrance fee:

  • Malaysian (If I did not remember wrongly, with Malaysian IC, the fee is RM5. *It is within RM 10)
  • Foreigners (*Should be within RM 30)

Remember to call for reservation before you are there. It is always either long queue or full!

Ban Khun Mae Restaurant Bangkok

Traditional Thai Food @ Ban Khun Mae Restaurant -Pandan Chicken, Seafood Tomyum Gong, Pineapple Fried Rice, Thai Green Curry, Pad Thai, Tub Tim Grob, etc….

Because this restaurant is considered a famous and high end restaurant, thus the price is higher than others. No matter which Thai restaurants I go, I love to order Tub Tim Grob which is the dessert which some call, rubies in coconut milk. It is actually water chestnuts in coconut milk! Rich, sweet and crunchy!!!!

Coconut Ice cream

Coconut Ice Cream @ Chatuchuk Market

A must try thing in Chatuchuk! It was so hot shopping and walking around the huge Chatuchuk market, a cold coconut ice cream with dried mango topping would cool you down!!!!

P/s: Chatuchuk market only open on weekends- Saturdays and Sundays!

Pork Burger MCd

Samurai Pork Burger @ McD -which you cant get it in Malaysia and SIngapore

Maeklong Railway Market

Maeklong Railway Market where the train will pass by a daily market

I have lost the photos for Damon Saduak Floating Market!!! It is a place worth going! You will be taking a “sampan” or speedboat travelling along a river market, where you can buy things such as food or drinks from another boat. There are a lot of floating souvenir shops along the river as well. You may ask ur boatman to stop by if you spot something you would like to buy.

Grand Palace Phra Nakho

Visitors must be properly dressed before being allowed entry to the temple. Men must wear long pants and shirts with sleeves — no tank tops. If you’re wearing sandals or flip-flops you must wear socks (in other words, no bare feet.) Women must be similarly modestly dressed. No see-through clothes, bare shoulders, etc. If you show up at the front gate improperly dressed, there is a booth near the entry that can provide clothes to cover you up properly. You must leave your passport or credit card as security.

Platinum Mall, Pratunam Night Market and Chatuchuk are very good for shopping places especially for getting cheap but nice clothes!!!! They are the MUST GO shopping places in Bangkok!

We create our own memories~   and lotsa love!   ………Ice

Sibu Island @ Johor, Malaysia

I love to go islands!!! I love the sun, love the blue blue skies!

Love the breeze, love the sound of the waves!

This time I went to Sibu Island at Johor. This short trip was a weekend getaway for me and my friends! We would like to have a really peaceful weekend and just to relax, do nothing and to be free! away from the world!

SOoooo, since I was the organizer and everyone was just easy, I got to choose the resort!

Normally, people will choose to stay at Sibu Island Resort, but in the end I found this simple, very raw-look resort to stay!

Rimba Resort

Why? First, becos I dinwanna go places that are very commercialized. Second, I saw this on their website:

The bar is open until the last guest goes to bed – wheelbarrow taxi’s available!

Wow! “Wheelbarrow taxi” idea is just too cool! Hahaha! I was really attracted by this very simple and south-east asian kind of style of the place! All the buildings there are made of what we called “atap” leaves and bamboos! My very personal preference for holidays!

Rimba Resort Bar

Night look of the bar

Day look of the bar

Interior of the bar

The bar is open from morning until night! Whole-day long! As you can see from the pictures above, the bar is a very relaxing and comfortable place and this was where we hang out most of our time during our stay at Sibu Island. There are bean bags, floor cushions and normal chairs all around. You can stand to drink, you can sit to drink or you can lie down to drink! We had our breakfast with healthy fruit juice there~ With the hot sunny afternoon and evening, we had our cold beers there. and we ended our nights there with card games and wines! Best weekend getaway ever!

Well, other than the bar. I chose this resort becos of the open-concept of its chalet!

The Chalet we stayed @ RImba Resort

Chalet @Rimba Resort

Why do I say open-concept? There are doors and windows…but no lock. The doors and windows basically are only covered by curtains. Anyone on the island can walk into your chalet anytime and same goes for the toilets! But somehow it is quite safe cos not many people on the island other than the resort workers and a few guests. The toilet is not fully covered up to ceiling so you might be able to enjoy some outside views while using the toilet or showering. The first day afternoon when we just arrived, there was snake hanging out at the roof at our toilet! Scary right? Haha! This place is still so natural!Let’s just be close to the nature!

DO TAKE NOTE that all resort workers are foreigners, they are from all over the world such as Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, so you have to be able to communicate in English to get proper service! During our stay, we are the only group of Asians, other guests are tourists from UK, Denmark and etc.

sibu island

Beach @ Rimba Resort, Sibu Island

We were lucky that the three days during our trips were all sunny days, be more specific, crazy hot sunny days!

I felt that the temperature there might be around 40 degree Celsius (just my estimation), so do rmb to bring sunblocks there! Although it was so hot, but I did really enjoy the sun and super nice blue sky!

Sunny sibu islandSibu Rimba Resort

We literally did nothing there, no alarm clock to wake us up in the morning. There is no need to think what to do next and rush to do. We just wandered around, read some books, chit chat, went to the beach….We once cracked our head to think of what to do there and in the end, the conclusion is DOING NOTHING. A break from all the things to do.

IMG_5992_副本Sibu Island Msia

Another thing I like this resort, there are books available to read. You can bring your own book there to read, once you finished reading your book, you can leave it there for the future guests to read. If you take a book from the resort and unable to finish it during your stay, you can take the book with you! The joy of sharing~

Me drinking beer in the evening~ our routine activity during the stay!

Aaahhh!!! Coconut tree is falling down~ falling down~

Jeremy with Sharky dog!!! Nice weather!

I love this photo so much! It feels like some commercial shooting though! I am gonna give it a caption of “Looking to the sun, Looking forward to the future!” (Im so lame -_-“) Photo credit: Jeremy

A group photo! We were trying to pose like the movie poster of “那些年我们一起追的女孩“ (You are the Apple of my Eye) ^^

Our dinner for the last night stay: appetizer and main course

Love the purplish sky at the dusk! Quite romantic right when blue sky becoming purple!

Indonesia Trip: Berastagi – Medan

Went for short trip to Indonesia with my colleagues in end of August. It was a 4 day 3 night trip, my first time to Indonesia! The trip was started from Berastagi (a highland) and travel to Medan. It was very tiring and bumpy due to travelling most of the time on mountain roads.

I have car sick all the way and luckily you can easily get motion sickness pills at almost every supermarket there and even in the rural areas! Thanks to the cheap but very effective car sick pills, I managed to overcome the dizziness  during the 4 days!

First stop of the trip: Taman Alam Lumbini at Berastagi. It is free of entrance fee so far. There is a myanmar temple or we called it Pagoda at the centre of the park. We were told that it was built by a Medan tycoon whom  had made a wish at Shwedagon Pagoda in Myanmar, if his wish was granted by the God, he would build a pagoda in Indonesia. So his deepest wish must have been granted that’s why we had the chance to visit a Pagoda in Indonesia.

farmer market @ berastagi

After that we had moved on to the farmer market at Berastagi. Berastagi is highland, the weather was cold there, the flowers, fruits and vegetables were all so fresh!  There were a lot of snakeskin fruits sold in the market (top right in the pic). I love the Avocado there, they are huge! I bought some home to make juice!

Jus Alpokat, Ayam PenyetMy favourite drink in Indonesia! Jus Alpokat aka avocado juice! They blend the avocado with some milk and ice and pour some chocolate sauce. The flavor is rich and the juice is thick! What a tasty nutritious drink! I drank two glasses a day! Addicted to jus alpokat!

horse ridingSelfie

Horse Riding at Berastagi farmer market. I was so scared when I first ride on the horse, just after a while, I was in love with it and enjoyed the joy of horse riding. When the horse was running fast, you tend to feel the freedom that it feels.

After a day at Berastagi, we moved on our journey to Lake Toba. Again the mountain roads really making us nauseous. Luckily the car sick pills were working on me, but my colleague was not so lucky. She vomited at every stop when we stopped for a rest.

indonesian plantSaw this plant at one of the rest stop, the flowers were like a ball and they were hollow. It was filled with air inside. Wondering the name of this plant. 🙂

Lake Toba

After 3 and half hours journey, we finally reached Lake Toba, we immediately jumped onto a boat to start our tour at Lake Toba!

Lake Toba (IndonesianDanau Toba) is a lake and supervolcano. The lake is 100 kilometres long, 30 kilometres wide, and up to 505 meters (1,666 ft) deep. Located in the middle of the northern part of the Indonesian island of Sumatra with a surface elevation of about 900 metres (2,953 ft), the lake stretches from 2.88°N 98.52°E to 2.35°N 99.1°E. It is the largest lake in Indonesia and the largest volcanic lake in the world.” (From Wikipedia)

Lake TobaThe weather at Lake Toba was quite cold especially with the strong wind on the boat!

Island on Lake Doba

There was some islands on Lake Toba (so you can imagine how huge the lake is!), we went to one of it! Samosir, or Samosir Island which is a large volcanic island in Lake Toba. In the ancient time, this island belonged to King Siallagan, who led a cannibal tribe. He would hold a trial at the stone chairs, once a criminal was convicted, There would be people broke the criminal’s legs and kept him as prisoner under the house together with livestock. The prisoner would be fed until he was fat, and the tribe people would kill him and cook and eat his flesh.

indonesian singer/artistso happen that we met some local artist there, you see how excited our tour guide was! He even forgot that he was working and we were actually waiting for him -_-“

The last day we finally reached Medan after a 5-hour journey!!! That was quite crazy, and we were all tired! Haha! Since we were in Indonesia, how could we skip the massage session? We went for a 2-hour traditional Indonesian massage straight after we reached Medan. The next morning we went to the morning market (Pasar Pajak Ikan) where there are a lot of stalls selling Batik, other cloths, Muslim wears and so on. (It is not a pasar (market) that sells ikan (fish))

playing piano

See they are enjoying the music while I m playing piano! (Well, we are just all very good posers! :p)

Escape 8 @ Sutera, JB

Curious about the very popular escape game in town, curious about whether we are at least a bit smart, curious about the feel of escaping.. so out of one boring weekends, my friends and I went to one of the nearest escape game in JB to search for some fun.

Escape 8: 5b, Jalan Tanjung 8/3, Sutera. (Which is somewhere opposite Warakayu Japanese Restaurant 《和乐屋》).

Escape 8 has two levels of difficulties for two themed rooms, the easier one is warehouse theme, the harder one is prison break theme. Sounds interesting right? Haha!

We chose the warehouse theme for our first time trying. The game duration is 45 minutes, if you cant get out of the room by 45 minutes, you lose the game. If you are able to come out in time but anyone of team members are left behind, you lose the game. You wanna win the game, your whole team must come out in time.

Our eyes were covered before moving into the room, when you can see nothing, you get quite freaked out about what is going to happen. We were chained at different corners in the room and only allowed to take off the eye cover once the game is announced to start. Frankly speaking, we were quite disappointed once we opened our eyes and saw the room. The decoration is just too simple, like a normal messy room with some wooden cartons, some shelves… Anyway since we were already in the game, we wanna get out of this place in time. We thought it would be too simple to find clues in the room to unchain ourselves and unlock the doors, we thought we can get out this place fast. However, it took us about 40 minutes to get out.. awww! The time flew when we were scratching our heads on where the clues are and how to get the passwords out of the clues.

Anyway, it is kinda fun!

Escape 1

There are a lot of plush toys there…

Cigarettes, alcohol and teddy bears are always girls’ favourite! :p

Escape 2

Ice….I wanna escape! :p
